Dear Governor Hochul, Senate Majority Leader Stewart-Cousins, and Assembly Speaker Heastie:

New York has failed to deliver on the promise of universal preschool across the state. Today, New Yorkers are collectively paying $14 billion for child care every year - and nearly two-thirds of New Yorkers live in child care deserts.

We call on you to put New York State on the pathway to universal public child care by:

• Pass a 3-K and Pre-K guarantee for New York State - that means no county should opt out, leaving families left out.

• Contribute to 2-Care, free child care for 2-year-olds in New York City

• Pass a progressive, sustainable and dedicated revenue source to fund universal child care for the long term - including ending tax breaks for big corporations and demanding the wealthy pay their fair share to benefit our workers and economy.

Universal preschool would save New York families tens of thousands every year and help reverse the exodus of families from our state. 

Governor Hochul has promised to get us on a pathway to universal child care this year – now we need to bring it home by guaranteeing 3-K and Pre-K across the state and passing the revenue to fund it.
