The Final Push: 1,000 Calls for Universal Child Care
Ask Governor Hochul, Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins, and Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie to get universal child care over the finish line in this year’s state budget!
The state budget deadline is April 1, and decisions about universal child care are being made right now. Governor Hochul, legislative leadership, and our representatives are negotiating the final budget — and they need to hear directly from the parents, providers, and New Yorkers counting on them to make sure their campaign promises for universal state-wide Pre-K, 2-K in NYC and more are in the budget. We also need them to deliver on state-wide 3-K and progressive revenue so we can get to truly universal child care in the next five years.
We’ve made it super easy. Here’s how to use the tool below:

PHONE SCRIPT
Hello,
I am a New Yorker and I live in [NEIGHBORHOOD] calling to talk about child care. Can I speak to the staff member who handles these issues? [if voicemail leave this out]
I am calling as a [staff member/ provider/ parent/supporter] to say thank you for the historic commitments to 2-K and 3-K in NYC, Pre-K statewide, and 0-3 pilots in select counties. I would also like to ask that in the final budget you include:
•$1.5 billion to fund state-wide universal 3-K
•$1.2 billion to pay the workforce a living wage
•Permanent, dedicated, progressive revenue to achieve Gov. Hochul’s promise of truly universal child care. The state must make this critical investment now.
I care about universal child care because [personal story here].
New York families are at their breaking point. Families with young kids are 2 times more likely to leave New York state due to the high cost of child care. Please make New York a place where families can thrive by fighting for universal child care. Thank you!
