Mayor Mamdani & Speaker Menin: Pass 2-Care for All!

Dear Mayor Mamdani and Speaker Menin:

We the undersigned, parents, would be parents, grandparents and New York City residents demand that you deliver free universal child care for ALL 2-year-olds in New York City.

After the historic promise from Governor Hochul to fund 2-Care for two years, we are writing to make sure it actually happens, and is funded for the long term.

2-Care would let New York City families be eligible for free child care as soon as their child turns two - just like Pre-K and 3-K. 2-Care would provide full-day and full-year care, helping tens of thousands of families stay in New York and thrive. And we already know how to make 2-Care work - because we did it with Pre-K and 3-K.

New York families are at their breaking point. We are losing young families and would-be families to other states and we cannot wait for the state or federal government to act. In 2022, NYC’s economy lost $23 billion as child care costs pushed parents out of the workforce - or the state entirely. We can’t afford not to do this.

We urge you to deliver provide free universal child care for ALL 2-year-olds. New York families can’t wait.
